Iris had said she'd go hunt something... But there's no pleasure in the hunt here. There's not much fun to be had around here at all, really.
Sure, she could probably shift herself enough to be able to actually TALK to the locals, but so far the only thing the place had offered that other locales didn't have was a naked Deirdre in a cage. Something Iris had enjoyed, sure, but hardly local. There was no sign that the locals developed any activity purely for pleasure... Well, at least none where Iris wouldn't have to admit to being far more intimately familiar with the activity in question than said locals. Plus, there were at least two family members walking around now which rather lowered the place's playground potential as well. Iris was not a happy hedonist. Especially since she'd only jumped in here because someone or something had - or at least that was what it felt like at the time - invited her. No welcome wagon though, or even an indication of the who or what around here. She'd gotten stood up. But then, judging by the reaction from the others, she'd been missing for a while. She probably should've asked how much time she'd been gone for. And figure out where she'd been during. Figuring that if Ygg manages to sense concentrations of power, she might be able to do the same, Iris follows the advice she gave Fiona once. Rather than using power, she sits down and simply listens. Feels. (OOC: I'm not online much still. Prolly gonna be another week or two. Posting when I can for however many chars I can) |

There are a few minor points of power here (such as a petty wizard of shadow might make), beyond herself, the demons, Gareth, and Deirdre. Then there's the ocean, a mighty powerful entity itself. Beyond that is a land that swims with sorcerous power. There is no detectible power of the pattern down here or of the logrus.
On the plus side, as any Amberite could be after having done this on a shadow, Iris is now a capable sorceress here. If she wants to do anything really nasty on this side of the ocean, she'll have to do it with a spell that takes the power out of the ocean. Pippin: Are we lost? There's no pattern or logrus... that's kinda disturbing. From Iris' limited knowledge on How Stuff Works, shadows are supposed to consist of both. Iris frowns as she tries to figure out what exactly this one is made of.

It's not a shadow, she discovers. It's as primal as Amber or Chaos. True reality.

That'd be unsettling if it weren't for the fact that so far, it being real hasn't meant it's any actual danger... Still. There's gotta be a Pattern or some such around here then... Right? Right. Still, bearing in mind that the people here die from just being spoken to, Iris searches for it with a soft touch.

Nope, nada, zip, zilch, nothing. Call the place primordial even, perhaps the oldest place there is.

Okay, there's something very, very wrong with this picture. For one thing, there's her feeling she got called here. For another, there's the part where there's nobody that she didn't already know shows up as worth worrying about. Either Brand got called away or he's a way better... shapeshifter... than she thought... Being able to hide and all. Add the Brand lookalike in Amber... And the whole Brand being the obvious person behind this... This isn't looking like a Brand plan. Okay, assuming Brand actually DIED when dad shot him, given that dad wasn't known for not being thorough... There's someone else who knows her who's a shapeshifter... in the Abyss.
In the next few moments, Iris' rather loud language quite shows she's daughter of the original sailor. |

Calming down some, Iris comes to the conclusion that, whatever's happening here, the participants practically had to be observed to get anything out of it. She really didn't like feeling like a guinea pig. Iris critically looked herself over. A guinea pig in disgusting, poorly fitting local clothing, no less. She ripped it off. A moment later, she was clean, and wore heavy black leather boots, skin-tight black leather pants slung low on her waist, and a very brief top - yes, also black leather - that only just covered her impressive bust. "So," she states in a very business-like tone. "Are you gonna come out of hiding to talk to me or do you want me to kill everyone else on this bloody world first so I can seek out whatever survives?"

It's not immediate and Iris can feel an answer coming long before it arrives in the form of a small imp. The creature looks to be on the point of expiring when it reaches Iris and does so shortly after arriving but not before handing her a business card.

Hmph. Not particularly efficient. Iris quickly weaves a working local teleport spell together to get herself to the beach on the other side of the ocean.

It's an easy study to discover that magic is much more powerful here and if she does on this side what she did on that side, Iris will be a master of it within hours.
The place is real and its powers are too. There are several beings, neither of Amber nor Chaos, here that are powerful enough to threaten an Amberite. Some might be powerful enough to win. One such being is with Gareth and Deirdre. Another sits alone in a fortress of ice in the far north. When Iris is done with her studies, he sends her a mental invitation to join him. Much, much better. She tries if that teleport trick will actually work here. Only to the door, of course, not directly to the being. That'd be rude.

Re: Iris - The Abyss: solo | #18 | ||

Not to mention impossible here. Yes, the teleport trick works.
The fortress is shaped like a pentagon with a single tall tower at one of the vertices and a large courtyard in the center. The door, five-sided also, is in the middle of the wall opposite the tower, and open. The door is on the north wall and the tower looks south. The location seems to have been chosen for its site on a high plateau and its complete lack of life. It's a very cold place where a hint of summer probably never comes. The door does not close behind Iris and there's an obvious path to follow. There are also many other ways to examine if curiousity should get the better of her. [assuming it wouldn't] Iris finds herself in the tower's observation room. It's only furniture is a large chair. A man-shaped creature of perhaps ten feet in height sits on the chair. His skin is black and he wears no clothing. A thorny crown rests on his forehead. His right arm hand has been severed at the wrist. The wound, while not bleeding, appears relatively fresh. "You know," Iris starts without preamble "I've always felt people that started by simply asking me what they wanted were more likely to actually get it than the others."
