After a short while, Iris comes upon a man and a boy trying to right an overturned pushcart that contains the various metal implements of a traveling tinker.

"Need a hand?" Iris offers, and carefully pulls the cart back on it's wheels.

"Oops."
This is going to cause some problems in the making-new-friends department, Iris can tell. Still, there was something that seemed to invite her here, so there's someone... or something... here that presumably can and wants to communicate with her. She opens her senses to her environment... Is there any direction that seems particularly interesting... |

Re: Iris | #5 | ||

The environment feels dull and without anything to contribute to Iris's awareness. It's then that Iris realizes that no, it's her senses that have nothing to contribute. She can feel nothing beyond herself.
Of course, now she has a pushcart and a possible direction since they were heading the same way Iris was going. "Without a monster or two it's not a quest - it's a gaggle of friends walking about" -Owl |

Re: Iris | #6 | ||

... good enough, she supposes... Hoping that it's just talking that kills she picks pen and paper from the tinkers' tools and starts moving in that direction.
She stops. Wait. Best to check something. She gets out her trump deck and tries if there's any sensation on them... Especially her own. |

Her own most certainly. The magic of trump cards also seems to exist here. Whether they can reach beyond the Abyss is another matter.

Another matter, but one she doesn't really care about. She makes a quick check to see if any of them are particularly active.

Oh good. She's probably not dead and none of the supposedly dead are around to annoy her either. With that out of the way, Iris silently moves on.

Within an hour she comes upon the telltales of population: a farm or two beside the road. People are working, but none are really close enough to talk.
An hour later Iris reaches a village (no wall or defenses). "Without a monster or two it's not a quest - it's a gaggle of friends walking about" -Owl |

Between walking and not being sure she can safely use her voice, Iris is getting pretty bored with this Abyss thing. She looks around for something interesting.

Bored already?!?
Iris can observe what seems to be a witch hunt. The villagers apparently found the dead guys and are now on the lookout for 'another' demon. They hope stuffing wax in their ears and hurrying about it will prevent some deaths. They plan to capture it alive and send it to the capital like they did the other one. OOC: Yes bored already... Remember this is Iris. Most of her favored activities just won't work without any vocalizing
That nicely goes to prove that people are morons... Still, there's someone else here then somewhat like her. The capital it is... Onward. |

Re: Iris | #15 | ||

It's a hellish journey for Iris, travelling without speaking unless she wants to kill someone or something. On the plus side, when she's attacked by bandits it gives her an easy task of defending herself. Overall this realm is a pleasant and dull place with little in the way of apparent conflict or trouble.
Iris learns about the pet demon once she's at the capital. It's imprisoned within the palace of the king, in one of the more public areas that is visitable by the public. Apparently the demon is used to demonstrate the power of the king. During the day there are three guards, together, that she must get past to visit this area of the palace, which also includes a public garden and a small display of historical artifacts of interest to the realm. There is an entry requirement of speaking before being let in. Watching their behavior, Iris can see the guards think this is bogus. One of them is deaf. He stands back from the other two who do the greeting and searching of any items that need to be searched. Weapons aren't permitted in the palace. At night, the entrance is closed and the number of guards reduced to one. "Without a monster or two it's not a quest - it's a gaggle of friends walking about" -Owl |

Iris takes a long look at the closing of the entrance - what's it made of? How well is it closed?

Re: Iris | #17 | ||

It's an iron gate, well maintained. For her strength, not a problem. Given locking technology, she could probably get through it with a pick as well. The main deterrent is supposed to be the guard. Climbing over the wall's probably easier.

Re: Iris | #18 | ||

Iris happens to know the easy way is always mined. As she climbs over the wall, she can't help but wonder why they didn't take precautions against this... Then again, they've got a demon in a cage that'll kill things with it's voice. People sneaking IN is probably not their biggest concern...

Re: Iris | #19 | ||

People sneaking into this part probably isn't their biggest concern. From atop the wall, Iris notes the kennels for the guard dogs. There don't seem to be any hounds nearby at the moment and the wind is blowing in her face so she won't leave an immediate scent.
The demon's cell is about 10x20 feet and it has a large tarp covering it. Iris peeking in discovers it's glass and also steel bars in content. The demon is apparently allowed free run of its facility during the night. If not for it's unkempt, albeit naked, appearance the demon would be a rather attractive woman. Deirdre of Amber to be exact. "Without a monster or two it's not a quest - it's a gaggle of friends walking about" -Owl |

Re: Iris | #20 | ||

Iris rather doubts the construction would keep Deirdre in if she decided she wanted out. Which means she's staying for a reason and probably wouldn't appreciate any rescue attempts of the guns blazing variety. Iris wonders why though. Next to being universally feared and permanently hunted, having a roof over your head and getting enough food probably isn't a bad deal. Still, to be kept caged like a pet rat...
Taking care to stay on the right side of the wind, Iris silently climbs to one of the corners of Deirdre's cell. She looks at Deirdre - visually assessing any damage done to Deirdre's body - and waiting for the inevitable moment the female instinct about being ogled kicks in and Deirdre notices she's there. |
